Reigniting Passion for Practical Life, Grace and Courtesy in the Second Plane of Development
As an Elementary Guide, it is essential that we develop a deep respect and understanding of the framework Dr. Montessori provided in her description of the Four Planes of Development. The Elementary-aged child is in the unique position of having emerged from the First Plane of Development, Infancy, where Practical Life is a dedicated area of the classroom curriculum.
During the Second Plane, Childhood, we must be vigilant in the preparation of opportunities for adaptive individualization in our communities. By first identifying the Sensitive Needs of the learners in our classroom, we can offer applicable Practical Life and Grace and Courtesy lessons as a continuation of this crucial preparation for the eventual growth into the Third Plane, Adolescence.

Melissa Romero presents 2 evening workshops
- I Invite you to participate in authentic, courageous, and open conversations to encourage connection through discussion and shared experiences.
- I provide opportunities for participants to feel empowered as meaningful opportunities to co-create, collaborate and connect are made possible by holding a safe space for one another.
- Using photographs for insight and inspiration, stories and real-world examples, participants will be guided through dynamic processes allowing for reflection and planning actionable steps to transform their classroom community.
Currently Lead Teacher Upper Elementary and Elementary Spanish Teacher
Melissa completed her Montessori I and II endorsements in 2000 and 2004, respectively. Having been involved in Montessori education as a guide for over 25 years, she taught students from ages 2 to 14.
A true lifelong learner, Melissa completed a Social Emotional Learning Facilitator certification, Transformative Teaching and Leadership certification along with a 500-hour TEACH (Trauma-informed, Equitable, Accessible, Community-Based, Healing-Centered) yoga instructor certification.
With a continuing thirst for knowledge and a deeper understanding of how she can support true change in the world, she is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Social Emotional Learning, Mindfulness and Yoga.
Melissa received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, specializing in Human Development. She then attended Eastern Michigan University to complete coursework for K to 8th state curriculum. During these earlier years, she had a variety of experiences teaching Spanish to Montessori students from ages 2 to 12 years and elementary-aged children at local public schools.
