Description: Harbour Pointe Montessori School and Early Learning Center is a well-established, reputable preschool/toddler program located in Mukilteo. We are looking for a reliable person who can fulfil the role of a full time teaching assistant in our toddler classroom (18 months- 3 years).

The role of the toddler assistant teacher is critical and is important in order to create a smooth and consistent flow of the day. This role involves working with a team of assistants and the lead teacher creating a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where young children can explore, grow, and thrive. The assistant teacher is a partner in the implementation of a quality early childhood education experience for each child.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for early childhood education, a strong understanding of child development, be compassionate and be dedicated and have a willingness to learn. Familiarity with the Montessori principles is a plus!

Requirements for Hire:

  • Reliable with a strong work ethic
  • Able to be patient, kind, compassionate, and show empathy toward others
  • Strong communication skills
  • Able to take direction from peers and be a team player
  • Eighteen (18) years or older
  • Able to attend to child at ground level
  • Speaks conversational English (speaking other languages is a plus!)
  • Able to pass a state background check
  • Willingness to complete required 30 hours Childcare Basic Training within 90 days of employment and continuing education in early childhood

development.

  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Lead Teacher: Assist in preparing and maintaining the classroom environment in accordance with Montessori principles.
  • Child Supervision & Care: Guide children in daily routines, including work cycle activities, snack time, toileting, and outdoor play.
  • Encourage Independence: Foster self-help skills by assisting toddlers in tasks such as dressing, toileting, and cleaning up after themselves.
  • Classroom Preparation: Help set up materials, clean and organize the classroom, and ensure the learning environment remains inviting and orderly.
  • Behavioral Support: Guide children with patience and respect, using positive discipline techniques aligned with Montessori philosophy.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the lead teacher, fellow staff members, and parents to support each child's growth and development.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure a safe and nurturing environment by following all school policies and procedures.
  • A basic knowledge & understanding of Child Development ages 18-36 months.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Previous experience working with toddlers in an educational or childcare setting (preferred).
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn Montessori philosophy and methods.
  • Warm, patient, and nurturing demeanor with a passion for early childhood development.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift and move small children, sit on the floor, and participate in active play.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Montessori Assistant certification or experience in a Montessori classroom.
  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) credits or equivalent coursework.
