Description: Lower Elementary Teaching Assistant

Located across the lake from Seattle in Bellevue, Washington, Eton School serves students from Pre-elementary (age 3) through Middle School (grade 8). As a well-established independent school, Eton School is seeking a caring, and confident full-time, Teaching Assistant for a Lower Elementary Montessori classroom. Students are first through third grade (ages 6-9). Full-time Teaching Assistant positions are scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the academic school year, with hours often available during the summer months. The schedule may vary while working in childcare on days school is closed and over Midwinter and Spring breaks. Eton School is an equal opportunity employer. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be proactive in learning the school mission and culture
  • Work directly with teachers to supervise and work with small groups and individual students
  • Supervise students in transitions between classes as well as on field trips
  • Work with the teacher in supporting behavior expectations of students
  • Prepare materials for projects and maintain supplies
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with supervisor and supervising teacher
  • Participate in arrival and dismissal duties
  • Serve as recess and lunch monitor
  • Help facilitate the correcting of student assignments
  • Prepare correspondence to be sent home with students
  • Supervise students who are participating in school projects
  • Serve as a substitute for a teacher as assigned
  • Work in the afterschool childcare program once or twice a week or as needed

Additional Opportunities

  • Teach special units of study within an area of expertise or interest
  • Support performing arts teacher with the musical production
  • Tutor students after school

Minimum Qualifications

  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Communicate positively and effectively with students
  • Exhibit professional manner
  • Work effectively as part of a team
  • Conscientious attitude regarding work completions
  • Familiar with MS Office, Internet, and E-mail, as well as other technology

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, willing to hire Montessori intern
  • Resume, Application, Cover Letter
  • Experience and confidence in working with children
  • Must have results of a one-step Mantoux TB skin test prior to starting work or provide written proof of a negative Mantoux TB test within the past twelve months; a previously positive Mantoux TB requires documentation of treatment or a negative chest x-ray
  • Documentation of MMR vaccine, blood test results indicating immunity, or proof of medical exemption
  • Background check and fingerprint report conducted by the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF)

The following trainings are required for the position and if not current, will be done through the school’s professional development and expense:

  • First-Aid/CPR
  • HIV/Bloodborne Pathogens
