Description: Upper Elementary and Middle School Classroom Assistants

Eton School in Bellevue, Washington, is an independent school for children age three through grade eight whose mission in educating the whole child inspires creative, confident thinkers who have an enduring passion for learning and are poised to contribute to the world. In support of our mission and statement on diversity, we seek qualified Classroom Assistants to work within our Upper Elementary (Grades 4 & 5) and Middle School (Grades 6 – 8) classrooms.

Classroom Assistants are scheduled to work Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:30, during the academic year. Daily schedule may vary (with advance notice) for non-school days and some school breaks. The primary responsibilities of this position include supervising students, maintaining the classroom, and supporting teachers and student academics. Interviews will be held mid-July through mid-August and applicants will be notified of a decision within two weeks of applying. Work for the upcoming academic year begins August 22.

Examples of Daily Tasks Include:

  • Classroom overview: maintain a peaceful atmosphere by helping students as needed, provide the necessary support for teachers to give lessons, and help to implement the daily schedule.
  • Care for the environment: work with students to maintain a clean environments.
  • Guide students in following school, classroom, and playground rules; use positive discipline and provide natural consequences to actions.
  • Nurture and assist students as needed while encouraging independence within the classroom.
  • Supervise students in childcare program (“Clubhouse”): outside school hours, during some school breaks and non-school days.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age
  • Previous classroom experience with the age group preferred – solid academics needed
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Health and safety training can be completed upon hire, costs reimbursed by the school:

o Pediatric and Adult CPR/AED and First Aid training

o Bloodborne Pathogens training

o Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect

  • Must have results of a one-step Mantoux TB skin test prior to starting work or provide written proof of a negative test result within the past twelve months. Positive results require documentation of treatment or a negative chest x-ray.
  • Must show either proof of MMR and COVID-19 vaccinations, proof of immunity through antibody titer, a health care provider's attestation of infection sufficient to provide immunity or proof of medical/religious exemption.
  • Must complete a Portable Background Check through DCYF and submit to fingerprinting as required.
  • Able to lift 30 lbs. overhead and to move freely while supervising and engaging in indoor and outdoor activities with students.
