MPPI 2018 Retreat Summary:
The Montessori Public Policy Initiative (MPPI) recently concluded our 2018 Advocacy Retreat in Alexandria, Virginia. We were honored to bring together Montessori advocates, leaders, and associations to discuss a myriad of salient policy issues impacting the Montessori community. This event welcomed over 100 Montessori advocates from 30 states as well as leadership from several national organizations, including MEPI, PAMS, AMS, AMI/USA, MACTE, and NCMPS. The Retreat was designed to educate attendees about the Montessori policy landscape, provide tools for effective advocacy, and hear how others are affecting change. The program included an agenda that covered a wide-array of critical state policy issues that affect the delivery of a high-fidelity Montessori education.
MPPI organized a collective group of contributors that portrayed a growing body of torchbearers in the Montessori community. Other sessions were facilitated by leaders in the broader early childhood learning community, in line with our recurring call to build relationships with and advocate alongside of other educational advocates.
